ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG), the popular brand that produces some of the high-performance gaming phones and computers, is launching an esports academy in India.
The company plans to train up more esports talent in the country, and will begin scouting for individuals who want to become professional gamers to join the academy.
Shortlisted individuals will be provided with the necessary gaming equipment, coaching, and even salaries to prepare them for competitive esports tournaments on both the national and international level.
For the start, ROG will be looking for players for the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO) game, and will gradually move on to other game titles in the future.
Since 2019, the number of online gamers in India has grown significantly — growing by 31% to over 365 million people. This number is expected to reach 440 million by 2022.
“With ROG Academy, we aim to be able to provide a platform for the young generation to see what kind of opportunities are there in the gaming industry,”mentioned Arnold Su, Business Head of Asus India.
