This is good news for the Esports industry, with hope that the money will be used on the 2019 SEA Games athletes and develop Esports regulations.
The 2019 South-east Asian Games will be the first time that Esports will be contested as a medal event in a multi-sport competition sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee.
Malaysian Youth Council said with the allocation, it was a good opportunity to create an optimum healthy ecosystem in Esports which majority of the enthusiasts were youth - a good thing for the nation!
It is hoped that the allocation won't end up like last year's budget, whereby RM10 million was allocated to develop Esports but not much has been seen transpired from the money.
It would be really great if the public could have detailed and complete report on what has been done with the initial investment and will be done with the additional allocation next year - so that everybody knows what's going on and feel even more interested with Esports!
Done right, this RM20 million will help a lot of local game developers in Malaysia, especially those who are facing hardships in game developing and publishing.
