Garena Free Fire made more money than PUBG Mobile in the US for the first time

Garena’s mobile Battle Royale game, Free Fire, is breaking new heights.

For the first time ever at the end of Q1 2021, Free Fire made more money than Tencent’s PUBG Mobile the United States.

According to analytics firm Sensor Tower, Free Fire generated $100 million in revenue, significantly higher than PUBG’s $68 million in the United States.

The report also shows that Free Fire’s revenue had a huge jump — to 4.5x higher than the same period last year (Q1 202).

PUBG still remains to be the global leader for Battle Royale games

Despite Free Fire’s rapid growth in the United States, PUBG Mobile still claims the top spot as the global leader in the Battle Royale space — generating total revenues of $744.4 million in Q1 2021.

Much of PUBG Mobile’s global revenues can be attributed to the company’s Chinese adaptation, Game for Peace, which is hugelly popular in mainland China.

Globally, Free Fire generated $255 million in revenues, and other competitor, Call of Duty, generated $182 million.

Battle Royale games brought in $1.3 billion in Q1 2021, accounting for 86.7% of shooting game sales on mobile.
