A team of college students from Malaysia are giving the ladies a chance to prove their mettle in the world of esports.
The student group, also known as The New NRML, have just kicked of an all-female esports competition known as “Rise of Athena: All-Female Valorant Tournament 2021”.
All-Female Valorant Tournament
The competition, which spots a RM3,000 grand prize, is open to female Valorant gamers aged between 13 and 30 years old from Malaysia and Singapore.
Valorant is a new first-person shooter game that was released in June last year, and has quickly risen to become one of the top-ranked competitive titles.
“Rise of Athena” finals this July
Currently 8 teams have made it past the qualifiers, and will compete against each other for the grand prize on the 17th and 18th of July — matches will be live streamed on The New NRML’s Facebook page.
Koh hopes the “Rise of Athena” will inspire more women to participate in competitive gaming, increasing more representation of females in esports in the long run.
“With ‘Rise of Athena’, we strive to encourage and normalise female gamers in the competitive scene, and hope to inspire fellow tournament organisers to do the same.”Thomas Koh, Leader of student group, New NRML
